Turner & Hooch reboot: First look at Disney+ series is off the leash

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Today Disney is giving audiences a dog's-eye view of its new Turner & Hooch series heading to Disney+. The mouse-eared megacorp posted a first-look teaser for the upcoming series this morning, which has the pooch who plays Hooch giving us a tour of the set. Set to some super chill "roaming dog" music, the footage finds Hooch interacting with his co-hosts and visiting with other dogs on the lot. At one point in the teaser, Hooch stops off at the craft services table where he's given a treat, no doubt for being a good boy while filming.

For Turner & Hooch, Josh Peck (Nickelodeon's Drake & Josh), will be taking on the leading role. The original film starred Tom Hanks as Scott Turner, a "compulsively neat detective whose tidy world goes to the dogs when he’s forced to team up with a drooling slob of a junkyard dog named Hooch." Peck will play Scott Turner in the reboot, who will now be an "ambitious, buttoned-up US Marshall [who] inherits a big unruly dog, he soon realizes the pet he didn’t want may be the partner he needs." The 12-episode series will be written and executive produced by Matt Nix (Burn Notice). The Disney+ reboot isn't the first time Turner & Hooch has made it to the small screen, as ABC ordered a half-hour pilot soon after the film which starred Thomas F. Wilson (Back to the Future) and Beasley the Dog reprising his role. The pilot did not go to series but did air as part of the Wonder World of Disney anthology series.

Joining Peck for the reboot are Paul Campbell (Battlestar Galactica) as Grady Garland, Reginald VelJohnson (Die Hard, Family Matters) as David Sutton, Becca Tobin (Glee),  as Brooke, and Matt Hamilton (Supernatural, A Wedding to Remember) as Trent Havelock, just to name a few.

Turner & Hooch is set to unleash oversized dog-related chaos on the streaming service on July 16th.
