Twilight producer Temple Hill headed to TV with Count of Monte Cristo update

At its center, THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO is a revenge picture. Sure, it’s many other things…draped in period affectation…but make no mistake, it’s all about bloody comeuppance. And it looks like Alexandre Dumas’ age-old tale is coming to the small-screen!

Deadline reports Temple Hill, producer of the massively popular TWILIGHT film franchise, is making a deal with ABC to bring a number of different projects to the TV network. First up is a reworking of THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO, the script for which is currently being ironed out by “Swingtown” scribe Mike Kelley. Word is Kelley looks to twist the material with a female bent, chronicling the story of a young woman who comes to the Hamptons to exact revenge on the people who destroyed her family.

Sounds like a pretty cool premise and all, but is ABC really gonna show enough balls, a la FX or AMC, to truly make this type of material effective? I mean, really, is there anything worse than PG revenge flicks? Or a heavily censored TV show based around the idea of revenge? I’m just not sure.

But what do you guys say? Is this a project worth following, even if it was on FX or AMC? Does the TWILIGHT connection already raise suspicion? What do you think?

Speaking of TWILIGHT, I’ve lost all respect/crush for Ashley Greene after finding out she dates a Jonas brother. Why Ashley, why?!?
