Exciting news for theme park enthusiasts reached the masses today as Comcast CEO Brian Roberts, Universal Parks & Resorts head Tom Williams and Florida officials announced plans for Epic Universe, an ambitious and new park set to break ground in Orlando, Florida.

Located near the Orange County Convention Center, the park will be built atop a 750-acre site, surrounded by hotels, shops, restaurants and an entertainment center.

“Our new park represents the single-largest investment Comcast NBCUniversal has made in its theme park business and in Florida overall,” Roberts said in a press release. “It reflects the tremendous excitement we have for the future of our theme park business and for our entire company’s future in Florida.”

While Williams was reluctant to disclose too many details related to the Epic Universe project, he made a point of saying that the collective “vision for Epic Universe is historic.” He then added that Epic Universe is poised to be “the most immersive and innovative theme park we have ever created.”

For the moment, Universal has refrained from disclosing which brands, films, franchises, and intellectual properties will be associated with the new park, though rumors suggest that Universal's long-gestating plans to build a Nintendo-themed park could be a part of the mix.

As you're likely to know, Universal has already experienced decades of success in the theme park arena thanks to their Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure and Volcano Bay attractions. We also hear that when Epic Universal allows its doors to swing wide, the park will employ upward of 14,000 workers, adding to the 25,000 total already established at the studio's Universal Orlando location.

“We look forward to the new level of entertainment and innovation Universal’s Epic Universe will bring to one of our state’s most important industries,” said Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. “We look forward to Universal’s continued contribution to our state’s economic growth and development.”
