Universal Monsters 4K Blu-ray set arriving in October

Universal Monsters, 4K Blu-ray

I love the Universal Monsters. I really can't get enough of them. The complete Universal Monsters box-set on Blu-ray is one of my favourite pieces in my collection, but it seems that I might end up double-dipping as Universal Pictures has announced that four of the classic Universal Monster movies will be making the leap to 4K.

Universal Classic Monsters: Icons of Horror Collection will be released on 4K Ultra HD on October 5, 2021, and will include Dracula (1931), Frankenstein (1931), The Invisible Man (1933), and The Wolf Man (1941). All four films have received 4K scans and have been remastered and restored from the best available film elements over the past ten years. While each of these movies has great importance in the history of cinema, not to mention being incredibly entertaining, I never dreamed that we'd see these classic movies in 4K. In addition to the films, the collection will include the following special features:

  • The Road to Dracula.
  • The Frankenstein Files: How Hollywood Made a Monster.
  •  Karloff: The Gentle Monster.
  • Monster by Moonlight.
  • The Wolf Man: From Ancient Curse to Modern Myth.
  •  Now You See Him: The Invisible Man Revealed

This still leaves plenty of other classic Universal Monster movies begging to make the leap to 4K, such as The Bride of Frankenstein and Creature from the Black Lagoon, but I can only hope that we might see those films released at a later date assuming this collection performs well.
