I know that some of you were hoping that Milhouse Van Houten, Bart Simpson’s blue-haired, egg-nosed friend had been cast alongside Tom Cruise in the WWII thriller VALKYRIE, which would now be a live action/animation warped comedy hybrid, but no. The Van Houten in question is Carice, the Dutch siren who recently starred in Paul Verhoeven’s BLACK BOOK. She’s apparently signed on to play the role of Nina von Stauffenberg, wife to Tom Cruise’s character, who of course is a German general involved in a plot to assassinate Adolf Hitler. No matter how hard I try, I still can’t see Cruise in that role (even though the man is a great actor) but having this made-for-the-silver-screen classic beauty by his side can only help matters. The fact that she’s a European actress whose face is largely unknown (for now) ’round these parts, can only help the authenticity of the film. She’ll most likely pull off the role of Tom Cruise’s wife better than Milhouse ever could, because Milhouse is a geek, and Cruise would never even date him.
