Venom: Let There Be Carnage early reactions call it a weird, silly, & fun ride

Early reactions for Venom: Let There Be Carnage is starting to make the rounds and from what I can gather from most of them is that the sequel is weird and dumb/silly fun. Essentially if you liked the first film, the sequel is a much more accelerated experience that fans of its predecessor will enjoy. Whether or not that you can call a film that is described as weird, dumb, but fun, a good movie, I suppose is open for interpretation.

Sony began screening Venom: Let There Be Carnage for critics yesterday after fan screenings brought about some positive feedback. Full reviews are still under embargo until closer to the film’s release this Friday, October 1, but social media reactions have been allowed. You can take a look at some of the reactions below!

Other than some of the reactions of the film itself, it appears that a big takeaway from these early reactions is that Tom Hardy is still 100% committed and gives a solid performance as Eddie Brock/Venom. Woody Harrelson is also getting some good reactions as Carnage but most of the performance praise, at least from these reactions, seems to point out Hardy specifically. I guess the only concerning thing, at least for me, is that the reactions do point out if you didn’t enjoy the tone of the first film this sequel likely won’t change your mind with this installment. 2018’s Venom was a huge financial success but critics weren’t too kind to the film and it appears the sequel could have a similar polarizing reaction as more critics make their opinions known.

Directed by Andy Serkis with a screenplay from Kelly Marcel, Tom Hardy returns as Eddie Brock/Venom alongside Woody Harrelson, who is bringing one of Venom’s biggest adversaries, Cletus Kasady/Carnage, to life. Kasady is a psychotic serial killer who also becomes the host of an alien symbiote known as Carnage. Also new to the franchise is Naomie Harris, playing the role of Shriek, Kasady’s love interest. Michelle Williams returns as Eddie’s ex-fiancee, district attorney Anne Weying, while Reid Scott rounds out the cast as Anne’s boyfriend.

What are YOUR thoughts on the early reactions for Venom: Let There Be Carnage so far? The Venom sequel hits screens this Friday, October 1, 2021.
