Venture into The Shimmer in new Annihilation featurette

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Should a mysterious, rainbow-colored vortex thing emerge out of nowhere, who among you would answer the call and walk on in for the exploration of science? Hands, hands, please. No one? Not a single one of you? Well, the women of ANNIHILATION (Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson, Jessica Lange, Gina Rodriguez and Tuva Novotny) are bravely stepping forward to step into The Shimmer, the dangerous area wherein dozens of expeditions have gone missing. What lurks inside other than demon bears? Who knows, but a new featurette explores The Shimmer and all the dangers inside it. Take a look above!

Here is a plot synopsis:

Lena, a biologist and former soldier, joins a mission to uncover what happened to her husband inside Area X – a sinister and mysterious phenomenon that is expanding across the American coastline. Once inside, the expedition discovers a world of mutated landscape and creatures, as dangerous as it is beautiful, that threatens both their lives and their sanity.

EX MACHINA was one of the most fascinating movies of 2015, and so Alex Garland has a lot to live up to with ANNIHILATION. The film certainly looks interesting and gives him a lot to play with in terms of a larger scope and bigger visual effects. The cast is great, and like many of you, I’m on eggshells wondering what happens to them in this horrific environment. Something about those deer things is certainly shady.

ANNIHILATION arrives February 23.
