Vicente Amorim, the director of such films as the 2008 Viggo Mortensen drama GOOD and the 2011 thriller DIRTY HEARTS, is currently in production on MOTORRAD, a horror film that is said to have elements reminiscent of ALIEN, PREDATOR, and the works of John Carpenter.

Inspired by a dream producer L.G. Tubaldini Jr. had and featuring characters created by popular comic book artist Danilo Beyruth, MOTORRAD centers on

a group of motorcyclists who are chased by psychopaths on customized bikes.

The cast and crew have ventured into the remote location of Serra da Canastra in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais to bring the story to life, a place that not only gives them some treacherous terrain and stunning views to catch on film but also helps them conceal the identity and appearances of the film's villains. They must be sporting very interesting looks, because they're being kept shrouded in secrecy.

The film stars Guilherme Prates as Hugo, a young man who heads out to do some biking with his friends in hopes of having fun, making new acquaintances, and maybe meeting some girls, and instead ends up being hunted by the mysterious psychos. Joining him in the cast are Carla Salle, Emilio Dantas, Juliana Lohmann, Pablo Sanábio, Rodrigo Vidigal, and Alex Nader.

Much of the thrills MOTORRAD will deliver will come from motorcycle chase sequences, and those are being accomplished with the aid of a stunt team headed up by Javier Lambert, who got his start on the 1989 James Bond film LICENCE TO KILL.

MOTORRAD isn't the first time Beyruth has been involved with a project that mixes horror and motorcycles. In addition to working on Marvel titles like Doctor Strange and Deadpool, Beyruth also created the Brazilian comic book Necronauta, about a motorcycle riding character (pictured below) who carries the souls of the dead to the afterlife. This has led to some speculation that MOTORRAD may be connected to Necronauta in some way, but that hasn't been addressed by anyone involved with the film. Beyruth will be moving on from MOTORRAD to more vehicular action on the page, as he will be providing the artwork for the next wave of Ghost Rider comic books.

Scripted by Amorim, Tubaldini Jr., and L.G. Bayão, MOTORRAD is aiming for a 2017 release.

A Brazilian production about psychos on motorcycles that has hints of Carpenter, ALIEN, and PREDATOR makes this a film that is right up my alley. MOTORRAD has instantly earned a place near the top of my "Must See" list.
