In case you haven't heard, or don't care, the Electronic Entertainment Expo (or E3) has kicked off this year, and it has been releasing trailers and gameplay footage for a multitude of games. Some have looked awesome, some have been disappointments, but overall this is an exciting time. And since there is so much content jam-packed in this event, I thought we'd take a look at a few stand-outs:
First up is SONIC FORCES:
SONIC FORCES – like all SONIC sequels – has a lot to look up to, as there hasn't been a good SONIC game in what feels like at least two decades. Sure, some have moments, or interesting ideas, but overall it's been a wasteland of wasted potential or buggy-ass games. However, what really sets this apart is the "Create-a-Sonic" feature, where you can create your own Original Character (don't steal). I wonder if there's an option to make them pregnant?
Next is BEYOND GOOD AND EVIL 2, this one a cinematic trailer:
Now I don't normally like cinematic trailers for games, because I find them deceitful (I still haven't forgiven FINAL FANTASY VII from back in the day). BEYOND GOOD AND EVIL 2 hasn't changed my stance on that, but as a stand alone thing? It's actually pretty fun and cool. I love how it's a weird mish-mash of sci-fi/cyberpunk/crime/cartoon animals. It's a weird mix that I really enjoy – like if Neil Blomkamp did a ROGER RABBIT reboot. I have my doubts that the game will match the cutscene (especially since the first game wasn't super amazing to begin with), but we'll see.
And finally, MARVEL'S SPIDER-MAN, which is another gameplay trailer:
This looks fun, and SPIDER-MAN has a better track record than most for decent videogame adaptations. And this one looks like all the rest (with a lot more quick time event, of course) which isn't necessarily a bad thing. However, the thing about E3, is that the game's demos are run by players who have practiced that particular section for hours – or even days – to get it perfect, and have maximum impact for an audience. So I'm curious, with all those moves at your disposal, how intuitive it is to use without prior knowledge? I guess we'll see when the game comes out.
