Vin Diesel thinks a Rocket/Groot movie is “highly possible”

I’m not really caught up on my comic book readin’, so when I heard about the first GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY movie being made I had to research it. I thought, “No one is going to see a movie about a talking tree and raccoon in space.” Oh, how I ate those words, how I ate them smooshed between two pieces of bark. Now, Rocket (Bradley Cooper) and Groot (Vin Diesel) are two of the most popular characters in pop culture right now, and though they're part of a bigger team there’s a great possibility they could be getting their own show.

While doing some press for XXX: THE RETURN OF XANDER CAGE star Vin Diesel spoke with Screen Junkies about seeing Spider-Man and Groot in the same film. Diesel didn’t have much to say about that, but he did speak with immense confidence about the future of the lovable raccoon and his tree companion:

“I think if it’s up to James Gun you’re going to see a Groot/Rocket movie. After Infinity Wars, it’s highly possible.”

Doubling down on the awesomeness, Diesel then went on to talk about one superhero Groot could see fighting, and it's a duel that would shatter the world with its epicness:

“I know somewhere in the universe, you’re gonna see Groot and Hulk battle. You can write it somewhere, you’re gonna see that poster: Groot vs. Hulk.”

Now, Diesel is of course going off his own desires than what Marvel actually has planned. They surely haven’t disclosed anything like that with him, something we know seeing as how Diesel was not shot with a blow dart after saying these things. However, these ideas are not that farfetched.

Groot and Rocket are incredibly popular, and they (mainly Baby Groot) stole the show in the recent trailer. It stands to reason to think a movie with them could work as a hilarious, strange buddy-cop-style flick. Not to mention James Gunn has made it known the two are among his favorite comic book heroes ever, so the odds of him doing a movie with just them is, as Diesel said, highly possible. As for Groot v. Hulk, it’s now known The Avengers will team up with the Guardians in the Infinity War movies, and to think the two groups won't start on the right foot is entirely reasonable. I could see Groot and Hulk duking it out as a result of such conflict, and my brain is already flowing with happiness goo.

Of course this is all the expression of hopes and dreams for the future of Rocket and Groot as opposed to concrete plans, but they’re all very possible ideas that Diesel himself is very confident could happen. For now though, I am perfectly content watching the two go back-and-forth in that GUARDIANS 2 trailer, if mostly because of the crippling cuteness. You run for it with all your might, my little tree friend!

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 is set to dominate on May 5.
