Vin Diesel says that the Guardians will be in Avengers: Infinity War

With over a dozen films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe under their belt, we've had plenty of examples of Marvel shuffling their various characters between movies, be it Robert Downey Jr. making an appearance in THE INCREDIBLE HULK or Hayley Atwell popping up in ANT-MAN, but so far, the Guardians of the Galaxy have been operating all by themselves on the other side of the galaxy. According to Vin Diesel, who voices Groot, the Guardians may finally find themselves coming face-to-face with Captain America and his band of merry Avengers in the upcoming AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, which is something we actually confirmed several months ago.

While addressing his fans on Facebook, Diesel expressed his gratitude for all their support over the years and for getting the ball rolling on his involvment with Marvel, after which he dropped the Guardians/Avengers tidbit.

Next year you’ve got Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 coming and that whole concept started from you all saying "when are you gonna be in a Marvel movie? When are you gonna be in a Marvel movie?" And you remember the first picture after that Marvel meeting that I had where I was standing [with] the Avengers thing in the back – some of you can look up that picture, you know that picture…there was an old Avengers copy that was behind me in that picture, if you look back on my Facebook page you can find that. What’s gonna be surreal is that picture is going to come to pass because now the Guardians will be included in Avengers: Infinity War and that’s incredibly exciting. Incredibly exciting. Incredibly exciting and something that if you were a part of our page, you knew before everybody.

This isn't exactly a surprise as it's long been hinted that at least one of the Guardians would be making an appearance in AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR; the Russo brothers even teased that Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) would turn up in INFINITY WAR earlier this year, but Vin Diesel's announcement makes it sound like the whole Guardians team will be involved in some fashion. GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 is set for a May 5, 2017 release and will be followed by AVENGERS: INFINITY WARS on May 4, 2018.
