While I’ve only read one issue of Robert Kirkman’s “The Walking Dead” (the first one, natch), I fully plan on forging ahead with at least a handful more before the highly-anticipated show premieres on AMC later this year. Like many of you, when I heard AMC, Frank Darabont and zombie series, I was sold immediately, regardless of the details, but based on that first issue I’m excited about the hellish world in store for us. Not sure how your average television viewer is going to handle it, but us horror fans, as well as people looking for something different from the usual programmed bullshit, will most likely be in for a major treat.
The comic geeks out there will be pleased to know that Kirkman has written two of the six initial episodes, including the first one. The writer revealed that and other sweet tidbits in an interview with AICN, including the following nugget regarding the show’s gore quotient:
“I don’t want to spoil anything, but there’s very graphic nasty stuff that’s on BREAKING BAD all of the time and the thing that I was very excited to learn about AMC is that there is no limitation to how much of that you can have per episode or per hour or per minute.”
“Anything you have seen in BREAKING BAD we can do every minute of our show. And then also there’s a lot of things you can get away with, because they are zombies, so you will be seeing all kinds of cool stuff that you would expect to see in THE WALKING DEAD: THE TV SHOW, so while it isn’t a pay cable channel, I think that people are still going to get what they want.”
Since I’m a gigantic “Breaking Bad” fan, it delights me to hear the man comparing the two – if only in terms of extreme violence… To read the full interview, head on over HERE.
