You’d be hard pressed to find anything but unanimous excitement for Robert Rodriguez’s reboot of the PREDATORS franchise. Not just here at Arrow in the Head, but across the film-going public it would seem. Rightly so, given the fact that Rodriguez handpicked Nimrod Antal to direct, from a script he wrote in the 90s as a sequel to the 1987 original. Not only that, everything we’ve seen out of the production thus far looks to harken back to everything we love about Predator. Save for the absence of Arnie, of course. And to fuel the fervor, actor Walton Goggins (seen right) recently touched down with Movieweb and had some interesting things to say about the flick. Scope it…
When quizzed upon the grueling shoot PREDATORS called for, Goggins mused:
“You know it’s interesting, I ran into Topher Grace at a party after getting back (from shooting the film) and it was like … we had the biggest hug because we both looked at each other and said, ‘You made it off the planet? Oh my God, you’re here?’ It was like going through a war, absolutely everybody kind of meeting their demise in their own way. It was exciting to see that these people exist in a world outside of Predators.”
Nice. Anytime an actor comes out feeling like he just went through some kind of hellish boot-camp, chances are that shite will translate to the screen. A good start, I’d say.
But let’s get down to brass tacks. When asked specifically about what fans of the original movie can expect with this 21st century rehash, Walt offered this:
“I think that you’re going to get to see a combination of classic Predators with a modern twist told by very, very competent filmmakers,” continuing “I think that the images in this movie are going to rival any other movie in its genre for quite some time.”
Wow, that second statement is a lofty one, wouldn’t you say?!? I really, really hope the dude is right!
And as far as personal excitement for the project goes, Goggins served this up:
“…it was extraordinary. It really was extraordinary. I think the thing that I’m most excited about is our lack of someone that is really big. We’re all regular guys. Except … we do have Oleg Taktarov (Righteous Kill) and he will tell you how big he is, multiple times,” joked the actor. “But for the most part we are all average builds and I think that gives people an opportunity to see themselves in this movie. At the end of the day I think the thing that I’m most excited about is it’s not just an action movie but it’s a movie about these characters that hopefully you will grow to love over the course of the story.”
All very cool business out of the PREDATORS camp, and seeing how the flick is only 4 months from release (July 7th), we should have ass-loads of new material from the project soon.
