WandaVision director expects people to be disappointed by finale

WandaVision, Disney+, Marvel

In just a few days, WandaVision will be coming to an end on Disney+, and like any water cooler show, there have been plenty of fan-theories popping up over the course of the previous eight episodes regarding the various mysteries of the series. While some of those theories have certainly panned out, there are many others which haven't, so you might want to temper your expectations if you're still holding out hope that the entire Spider-Verse will suddenly turn up.

WandaVision director Matt Shakman recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly about how he hopes people will feel about the finale.

I hope that they feel like the journey was satisfying for them. I know there are so many theories out there; there will be a lot of people who will no doubt be disappointed by one theory or another. But we're always telling this story about Wanda dealing with grief and learning how to accept that loss, and hopefully people will find that the finale is surprising but also satisfying, and that it feels inevitable because it's the same story they've been watching the whole time.

It's next to impossible to please everyone, and while I'm sure that some people will walk away from WandaVision disappointed for some reason or another, I feel confident that director Matt Shakman and series creator/showrunner Jac Schaeffer will stick the landing. No matter what happens, Shakman will also treasure his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. "The challenge as a director was unique," Shakman said. "I'll never have a job like this again. This was the job of a lifetime, to be able to draw on all of those different skillsets. But what does hold it all together is that it has a big heart. It's a love story, it's a story of loss, and I think that resonates even more in this crazy pandemic that we're all trying to survive right now. I think we can all understand where Wanda's coming from, so it helps it to resonate a little bit more." The final episode of WandaVision will debut on Disney+ this Friday. What are your hopes for the finale?
