Well I had to ask, right?
So a few weeks back we learned that after literally years of release delays, POSSESSION, the Sarah Michelle Gellar thriller remade from a South Korean film, is finally coming to DVD March 9th of this year. And to prove it might actually be true his go around, we’ve just clenched our bloody digits on a foursome of meaty clips from the film. Get after ’em below!
Based on the 2002 South Korean film JONGDUK (ADDICTED), POSSESSION follows: Jess, a woman whose life turns surreal after an automobile accident leaves both her husband Ryan and her brother-in-law Roman in a coma. Things take an even darker turn when Roman wakes believing that he is Ryan. As Jess tries to deal with these increasingly disturbing events, she also struggles with the possibility that either the spirit of her husband has returned to her or that something very sinister is at work.
Directing duo Joel Bergvall and Simon Sandquist (THE INVISIBLE) helm the project, which also stars Lee Pace, Michael Landes, Chelah Horsdal, William B. Davis, Tuva Novotny, Suzanne Bastien, Paul Jarrett, and Drew Scott.
In the first clip, entitled “Memories,” watch Gellar’s character grapple with her own history, how much of it she remembers, how much she doesn’t. If details to a story are what make an effective lie, this Lee Pace dude seems to have the formula down cold.
“Roman Wakes,” the second clip below, depicts Lee Pace’s character Roman awake from a deep sleep only to be examined by a doctor. Gellar then walks in and Roman goes damn near apoplectic.
Clip three, entitled “Hypnosis,” Roman undergoes a special kind of treatment to help him recall the horrible accident he’s suffered. But will the procedure work?
And finally, in the clip dubbed as “Whispered Words,” beware of some maudlin reminiscing about “our future” as the two leads observe an older couple and long for the days when you know, they truly knew each other.
In sum, this movie looks flat out terrible. Just atrocious. Uninspired, not very compelling, overwrought acting…none of it seems to be working here. But hey, if you dig on Gellar, it might be worth your time and Red Box rental fee.
