Wanted director to bring 3D thrills in the form of Red Asphalt?

This Timur Bekmambetov is one WANTED dude!

Ever since development on WANTED 2 petered out about two months ago, Russian director Timur Bekmambetov’s been attached to a slew of potential follow up projects. We’ve heard rumblings of him eyeing such projects as THE DARKEST HOUR, THE LAST WITCH HUNTER, and most recently THE CASEBOOK OF VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN. Well, apparently the dude still is room on his plate, and word out of the L.A. Times has it that the 3D thriller RED ASPHALT may be among his tastes.

While details are still a bit roiled on the project, Lionsgate insiders say it’s an “edgy 3-D thriller” that Bekmambetov has definite interest in. And with screenwriter Andrew Baldwin (author of the 2008 Blacklisted script THE WEST IS DEAD) currently etching a script, word is the project is picking up some serious momentum at Lionsgate. Timur is also attached to produce the film.

But even more of a mystery than what timur will direct next may be whether RED ASPHALT will have anything to do with that gnarly, fear-mongering blood-bath video they used to show us in Driver’s Ed. Remember that shite? I always thought it was a rad title, so maybe the movie will have absolutely nothing to do with those brutal cautionary-vids. Guess we’ll see!

In the meantime, tell us which project you’d like to see Bekmambetov direct next…aliens, witches, Frankenstein or bloody pavement?

mmmm…Angie!
