Animated Warhammer Series

According to Deadline, their sources say that while Amazon MGM continues to manifest a Warhammer 40,000 live-action series with Henry Cavill, the studio is also planning for an animated series event. Cavill is also attached to the animated project as an executive producer, but the studio has not commented on the news.

Amazon MGM will be collaborating with Blur Studios and Games Workshop. The animated show will be a spin-off of the Prime Video video game series Secret Level, which featured a Warhammer 40,000 episode. Dave Wilson, who directed that episode, co-creates and will direct the show. John Orloff (Masters of the Air) also serves as co-creator alongside Wilson.

The official synopsis for Secret Level reads: “Each episode of Secret Level serves as a gateway to a new adventure, unlocking exciting worlds from beloved gaming classics and highly anticipated new titles. Prepare for an unforgettable journey, where Amazon MGM Studios and gaming’s finest unite in a first-of-its-kind event that brings together more game IP in a single series than has ever been done before.”

Warhammer 40,000 Development Drama

It’s been quite a few years of ping-ponging back and forth with the proposed TV series adaptation of the Warhammer 40,000 game. Back in December of 2022, it was announced that former Man of Steel and Witcher star Henry Cavill had signed on to star in and executive produce a TV series inspired by the miniature wargame for Amazon’s Prime Video. Then, the project was given a ticking clock as the game’s publisher, Games Workshop, revealed that Amazon could lose the Warhammer 40,000 rights if they didn’t arrange agreeable “creative guidelines” for the show by the end of December.

Then, two years ago, it was announced that the show was going forward, as confirmed by Cavill himself. He posted on his Instagram, “My incredible team and I, alongside the brilliant minds at Games Workshop, have been working away in concept rooms, breaking down approaches to the enormity and magnificence of the Warhammer world. Together, we’ve been sifting through the plethora of incredible characters and poring over old tomes and texts. Our combined efforts have led us to a fantastic place to start our Universe, which has been agreed upon by those up on high at both Amazon and Games Workshop.”
