According to Deadline, Warner Bros. has picked up a pitch from screenwriter Dwain Worrell titled DANTE'S INFERNO, a big screen take on Inferno, the first part of Dante Alighieri's three part epic poem The Divine Comedy. The movie is being described as an epic love story, with Dante descending "through the nine circles of hell to save the woman he loves," which sounds more than a little like the plot of the 2010 Visceral Games video game of the same name.
Gianni Numnari's Hollywood Gang and Akiva Goldsman's Weed Road are set to produce the planned film, and Deadline says Warner Bros. is "excited by its scale and franchise potential." Dwain Worrell is working on an adaptation of the Jose Padilha short story Mindcorp for WB, and last year Amazon Studios acquired his THE WALL script, a thriller "about a deadly cat-and-mouse contest waged by an American sharpshooter and the Iraqi sniper who has him pinned behind a small chunk of concrete." Worrel also penned the scripts for 2015's OPERATOR and 2010's WALKING THE DEAD.
