Ever heard of Greg Berlanti? You might’ve. He co-wrote the currently filming GREEN LANTERN and was earlier this year tapped to possibly direct THE FLASH.
Well, according to THR’s Heat Vision blog, it appears Berlanti (“No Ordinary Family”, “Brothers & Sisters”), and his writing partners Michael Green (“Everwood”, “Smallville”) and Marc Guggenheim (“FlashForward”, “Eli Stone”) will be not only writing the treatment for GREEN LANTERN’s second installment, but THE FLASH as well. Heat Vision, however, makes no mention of Berlanti directing a Scarlet Speedster film, so I’m assuming that’s now dead in the water (he was also up to direct GREEN LANTERN before it eventually went to higher-profiled director Martin Campbell… I’m assuming THE FLASH will get a helmer of similar grade).
While it may seem odd that GREEN LANTERN – which isn’t due out for another year – is already beginning development on its sequel, Heat Vision points out that this move may be showing confidence on the part of Warner Bros. in what Martin Campbell’s done thus far. For fans, that should be great news.
Back to THE FLASH, the film will reportedly be taking its cues from writer Geoff Johns’ recent work, using the popular Barry Allen incarnation of the character.
GREEN LANTERN, to be released on June 17, 2011, is currently filming in New Orleans.
