Warner Bros. needs to see how Man of Steel performs before taking a risk with Justice League

In a rather lengthy article on Jeff Robinov keeping on as president while Kevin Tsujihara steps up as CEO and the upcoming slate at Warner Brothers, there’s mention that the success of MAN OF STEEL will influence another project– JUSTICE LEAGUE.

Here’s what was said:

“Further out, the studio’s planning a “Justice League” tentpole — encompassing DC Comics mainstays Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the Flash and the Green Lantern — on the order of Marvel’s “The Avengers.” Will Beall is scripting but no director has been attached yet. Stakes are high for “Man of Steel.” Other than Nolan’s Batpics, Warners has not been able to effectively exploit the DC library. Its 2011 “Green Lantern” underperformed, and a “Justice League” film wouldn’t likely be in theaters before 2015, as Warner’s top brass has indicated that they are awaiting the results of “Man of Steel,” which opens June 14, before moving further ahead.”

I don’t blame them for waiting on MAN OF STEEL to get a verdict on JUSTICE LEAGUE. But what makes JUSTICE LEAGUE so different from THE AVENGERS? To start, THE AVENGERS had a steady set of actors sticking with their respective characters. The only character to change actors semi-often was the Hulk. There’s also no director for JUSTICE LEAGUE. If they were to net someone that people could get behind, that might be helpful. Also, Beall is the current script writer. GANGSTER SQUAD didn’t seem to “wow” anyone. Is this the person to write such a big project? There may also be the argument that THE AVENGERS on-screen are a little more buyable than JUSTICE LEAGUE.

What do other possible issues do you think keep the JUSTICE LEAGUE on a back burner?
