Warner Bros picks Matt Reeves to direct their Twilight Zone movie

Remember when WB was reportedly looking at Christopher Nolan, Alfonso Cuaron, and Michael Bay to potentially direct THE TWILIGHT ZONE? Well, they decided to go with someone cheaper and more sensible: Matt Reeves.

According to Deadline, the LET ME IN/CLOVERFIELD director will enter negotiations next week with the studio to work out a deal to take on the Jason Rothenberg-scripted thriller (Rothenberg’s only previous credit is the TV movie BODY POLITIC). Here’s Deadline with more on what to expect:

“Though the last Twilight Zone film was an anthology with different directors, this one is a big science fiction action movie with a single freestanding story that is linked to the original series mainly in that it shares that familiarly eerie feel.”

I love that last sentence because it shows that this whole project is suspect and indicative that this will turn out to be “THE TWILIGHT ZONE” in branding only. The reality? This is WB’s attempt to replicate INCEPTION. I mean, “a big science fiction action movie”? C’mon!

WB hopes to begin production on THE TWILIGHT ZONE next summer.
