Warner Bros. will bring Minecraft to the big screen

You had to know it was coming—a big screen adaptation of MINECRAFT.

Warner Bros. has acquired the rights to open world game, MINECRAFT. I’m sure you’ve heard about it by now. Someone you know plays it whether it’s your kid, a workmate, your spouse, etc. I know people who aren’t even into conventional gaming that love MINECRAFT. Just in case you’ve been living under a very large rock for the past few years, MINECRAFT started as an indie sandbox game from developers Mojang AB where users could build anything that their little hearts desired. There’s videos online of rather impressive full-scale game versions on the Starship Enterprise, Atlantis, Rome, and the list goes on.

However, there’s not much of a story there but THE LEGO MOVIE proved that a basic detail like that one doesn’t matter. In fact, Jill Messick and Roy Lee (THE LEGO MOVIE) will serve as producers on this adaptation. Do they have any idea of where they want to go with the plot? If they do, it wasn’t shared when Deadline initially broke the news. However, there’s one interesting detail…it’s going to be live-action.

I think since it’s MINECRAFT kids will love it. The fanbase is there, and if it’s a hit it could have franchise potential. Just wondering why they decided to go with live-action instead of computer animated. Will MINECRAFT Steve look like this?

Are you excited for a MINECRAFT movie?
