Naomi Watts was clearly paying attention to Penelope Cruz’ Academy Award win (and the three others who’ve won Oscars in an Allen film) for her turn as adorably batshit Maria Elena in Woody Allen’s VICKY CRISTINA BARCELONA as she’s recently signed on to star in Allen’s upcoming film. She’ll be starring alongside Anthony Hopkins and Josh Brolin and as is customary with an Allen film, nobody has any idea what the film is about (probably not even the actors) but it’s slated to begin production this summer in London. And as is also customary with an Allen film, the cast is shaping up to be quite an impressive mix of stars. In the meantime, Allen’s upcoming WHATEVER WORKS, which stars Evan Rachel Wood and Larry David as love interests, will be released on June 23rd by Sony Pictures Classics while Watts can next be seen alongside Clive Owen in the thriller THE INTERNATIONAL and the drama MOTHER AND CHILD.
