WB nixes He-Man plans!

A bit of super sad news for all us ardent fan-boys and those filled with cheese-ball ‘80s nostalgia. According to Variety, Warner Brothers and Mattel have dissolved their ties to bring the beloved TV series (and 1987 film) MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE to the big-screen as a live action motion picture.

In development since 2007 under the watchful eye of power-producer Joel Silver (BORDELLO OF BLOOD, THE MATRIX), the GRAYSKULL project has become null and void since the two sides of the table (WB and Mattel) couldn’t agree on which direction to take the film. However, Mattel has plans to press on with the property, and it is said that KUNG FU PANDA director John Stevenson will remain on-board, just not with WB.

Who knows why differences arose. Maybe Silver couldn’t see the picture without anyone in the lead role but, as I see it, good ole Dolph Lundgren. I mean, have you seen that sweet, sweet feather-mullet dude’s sporting in the original? How could he not reprise the role?

For those unclear, MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE is a 1987 film based on the popular kids cartoon where an evildoer named Skeletor threatens to overtake Grayskull Castle and usurp all of the goodness on planet Eternia for his own nefarious power. Hopefully the new version, if there ever is one, won’t stray too far from the original premise.

What do you all think, which direction should He-man and his cohorts embark in?
