WB not flinching from the Batman vs Superman/Captain America 3 release date

JoBloJoBlo

A while back we brought you the news that Marvel’s untitled movie being released on May 6, 2016 would be CAPTAIN AMERICA 3 and yesterday came confirmation of that. Of course that meant that Warner Bros would have to decide whether or not they would be flinching again and moving their release date in front of or after Marvel’s sequel. Now we have a response from the studio.

Warner Bros president of domestic distribution, Dan Fellman, made the following statement to Bloomberg news regarding Marvel’s announcement.

It doesn’t make a lot of sense for two huge superhero films to open on the same date but there is a lot of time between now and [May 6, 2016). However at this time, we are not considering a change of date for Batman vs. Superman.”

That sounds like a challenge to me. It is hard to tell if Marvel is over-confident after CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER’s outstanding opening weekend or if Warner Bros. is just not f*cking around anymore. The end result if both movies keep the same release date will be two-fold. On one hand, it will definitely determine which comic label fans are siding with once the opening weekend grosses are tallied, but it could also backfire and diminish potential profits for both since studios now rely so heavily on opening weekend box office performances.

I can say that we have not seen an opening weekend with movies of this magnitude going directly against each other, but I am excited to see that double feature. As of right now, BATMAN VS SUPERMAN and CAPTAIN AMERICA 3 are slated to open opposite each other on May 6, 2016.
