Blumhouse managed another win at the box office this weekend, with the Jessica Chastain-led Other Mommy earning a strong $27.5 million. That’s a bit more than we predicted earlier this week, despite universally poor reviews. It did similarly well overseas, making $17.7 million for a $45.2 million global total. However, it’s unlikely to hold up well in week two, having earned a rare D+ CinemaScore, which suggests audiences are actively hating the film.

Will Other Mommy crash in its second weekend?

How bad a crash will we see in week two? Consider this: Verity, which was highly anticipated, earned a poor C+ CinemaScore and fell a steep 64% in week two to $11.48 million. Other Mommy should fall at least 70%. However, like Verity, it will turn a significant profit. In fact, Verity is certainly a hit, with its domestic total at $53.8 million. Notably, it’s also been a hit overseas, with its current international total at $113.9 million.

Resident Evil and Heart of the Beast score overseas

Resident Evil is also continuing to perform, falling only 34% this weekend to earn $8.35 million, bringing its domestic total to $136.5 million. Notably, it opened in Asia this weekend and had a huge $54.3 million international weekend, bringing its global box office to $320 million. Could a $400–500 million finish be in the cards?

Another movie that performed better overseas than at home is the Brad Pitt-led Heart of the Beast. It’s performed decently stateside, making another $7.1 million this weekend—only a 35% drop—for a domestic total just shy of $50 million. It’s done far better worldwide, where it’s been a significant hit, with its global total at $131 million.

The Social Reckoning and Forgotten Island struggle

After Digger flopped last weekend, all eyes were on another prestige title, Aaron Sorkin’s The Social Reckoning. While its $30 million budget will keep it from bleeding too much red ink, it opened with a very poor $5.5 million. Ouch.

Another disaster has been DreamWorks’ animated Forgotten Island, which made $4.5 million this weekend for a $30.2 million domestic total. It’s performed worse overseas, with its global total standing at only $50.2 million.

A24 has a solid hit with the Robert Pattinson-led Primetime, which made $4 million this weekend, pushing its domestic total past $41 million.

Digger tumbles as The Odyssey returns to IMAX

As for the Tom Cruise-led Digger, it fell a steep 60% in week two to post a $3.2 million weekend. Overseas, it didn’t perform much better, earning $6.4 million. Globally, it’s only made $35.3 million, putting it on track to be an astronomical box office failure—by far the worst of Tom Cruise’s career.

Angel Studios’ Western remake Angel and the Badman played to mostly empty theaters, grossing only just over $2 million. It will likely do better on streaming.

Finally, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey made a box office comeback this weekend, with its $2 million gross marking a 54% increase from last week. That’s due to WB surrendering Digger’s IMAX screens, allowing The Odyssey to return—and it’s still selling out 70mm screenings. Its domestic total is $622 million, while overseas it’s at $1.779 billion.

Street Fighter and Whalefall arrive next weekend

Next weekend is packed, with Street Fighter and Whalefall each looking to make an impact, while A24 is hoping for an arthouse hit with its meta Elizabeth Holmes film, You Can See Everything. Which one are you most intrigued by? Let us know in the comments.
