Weitz plays Gardener

JoBloJoBlo

Chris Weitz just directed NEW MOON, a movie that went on to have the second highest opening weekend in history. So that’d give the guy his choice of what project he’d like to direct next. Turns out it won’t be any big-budget tentpole type movies but instead a small story about a Mexican gardener and his son.

Weitz is in negotiations to return to Summit Entertainment where he directed NEW MOON for his follow-up film THE GARDENER, based on a script by Eric Eason. The film follows a hard-working Mexican gardener in Los Angeles and his ongoing efforts to protect his son. There were rumors earlier this month that Weitz might be done directing after doing THE GOLDEN COMPASS and NEW MOON back-to-back but Weitz says it ain’t so. He hopes to get GARDENER before cameras next spring.
