Wesley Snipes has met with Marvel about reprising the role of Blade

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

When Wesley Snipes was released from prison, it seemed like the question on everyone's mind was whether he would be up for a fourth film as BLADE. In the time he was encarcerated, the rights to the vampire character reverted from New Line Cinema to Marvel Studios who have yet to do anything with the character. Marvel has already re-introduced Daredevil and, soon, The Punisher to the Marvel Cinematic Universe while Blade and Ghost Rider wait for their return to the spotlight.

Promoting The Player at San Diego Comic Con, Snipes was asked by Deadline as to whether there will be a BLADE 4 in his future. Here is what the daywalker had to say.

The project is controlled by Marvel and we did have a really productive and a wonderful meeting and we discussed a number of things. I don’t know where it’s on their schedule at this point, that hasn’t been decided. I guess it’s still up in the air.

Snipes went on to say that his meeting with Marvel was regarding both Blade and other potential roles in the MCU but he did not offer any other details beyond that. While Marvel Studios does control the character, they do not own the first three films. Bringing Snipes back and keeping those films in continuity may be tricky. But, that doesn't mean there isn't a chance it could happen.

The BLADE trilogy represents one of the few bright spots in Marvel's non-MCU filmography and it would be interesting to see if they could incorporate the mythology into the overall universe. Snipes still seems to have what it takes to play the character and I would love to see him don the sunglasses and sword at least one more time.

The Player debuts on NBC this fall.
