It's been almost two years since the project was first announced, but there has finally been some movement on WGN's Scalped adaptation. It's being reported that the network has ordered a pilot for a television series based on the DC Vertigo comic.
The critically acclaimed 60-issue series, which was written by Jason Aaron and illustrated by R.M. Guera, follows "an undercover F.B.I. agent named Dashiell Bad Horse, who returns to the reservation to infiltrate a crime organization run by casino boss Lincoln Red Crow, who is also the President of the Oglala Tribal Council and Sheriff of the Tribal Police. Bad Horse is pulled into a world of crime, drug addiction, murder, double crosses, and everything in between as he confronts his own past in the course of trying to solve both old and new mysteries."
Geoff Johns (The Flash) is attached to executive produce the series alongside STAR TREK BEYOND and Banshee scribe Doug Jung, who will also be writing the script. According to insiders, WGN "is eyeing an all Native American cast" for Scalped.
Scalped is right up there with Preacher, Invincible and Transmetropolitan as one of my favorite comic series, and although I'm not sure if WGN is the right home for a TV adaptation, I am hopeful that the network will do the comic justice.
