What’s New to Watch on Blu-ray: Host, Archenemy & more

Host, Archenemy, Blu-Ray, February

It's that time again, folks! The time when we alert you to some of the newest Blu-Rays to hit shelves and online retailers. This week sees the physical release of Shudder's Host, which is, according to Dread Central, "The scariest film of the past decade." That's a bold claim indeed. I mean, have you seen Hereditary or Midsommar? How about The Lodge or Suspiria? Directed and co-written by Rob Savage, with Gemma Hurley and Jed Shepard, Host reveals what happens when six friends hire a medium to hold a seance via Zoom during the lockdown, but they get far more than they bargained for as things quickly go wrong.

If you're not in the mood for horror, maybe try Adam Egypt Mortimer's Archenemy on for size. In the film, starring Joe Manganiello, Jessica Allain, Luis Kelly-Durante, and Mac Brandt, Max Fist (Manganiello) claims to be a hero from another dimension who fell through time and space to earth, where he has no powers. No one believes his stories except for a local teen named Hamster. I've yet to watch Archenemy for myself, but I must say that trailers have it looking pretty cool.

Thomas Bezucha's Let Him Go is also making its Blu-ray debut this week, which stars Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, and Kayli Carter. The drama focuses on a retired sheriff and his wife, who find themselves grieving over the death of their son, and set out to find their only grandson. This all sounds rather emotional, no? I'll admit that it's not my cup of tea. But hey, perhaps it's yours?

Other notable releases include the 4K presentation of Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing, a 4K presentation of Shin Godzilla, Ladybugs, Mouse Hunt, Small Soldiers, Sky Sharks, and more!
