UPDATE: Warner Bros. has just announced the casting of Ken Watanabe.

The Canadian city of Nanaimo is about to get stomped to dust.

Canada.com (via ComingSoon.net) has revealed that Nanaimo, which is a city on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, is set to be home to GODZILLA‘s coming out party. The film’s producers were reportedly won over by the city’s industrial look, although the fact that it’s also has some very scenic glimpses of the water (as seen above) certainly didn’t hurt.

The article states that producers did a casting call in February for extras and recently notified residents along Old Victoria Road that filming is about to begin. Evidently, Vancouver Island will make up the first shots for the new take on the legendary radioactive monster. But could it be doubling for Japan? That’s a hunch on my part, but don’t lay any money on it just yet.

The Gareth Edwards-directed film, starring Aaron Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Bryan Cranston, Juliette Binoche and David Strathairn, will open in theaters on May 16, 2014.
