The first teaser trailer has arrived for The Third Parent, an upcoming horror film starring Rob Lowe (St. Elmo’s Fire, The Stand), Crispin Glover (Back to the Future, River’s Edge, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, the Willard remake), and Roselyn Sanchez (Rush Hour 2, Fantasy Island). Based on the viral creepypasta stories by writer Elias Witherow, the film brings one of the internet’s most disturbing horror creations to the big screen, with Glover taking on the role of the sinister Tommy Taffy.
Bleecker Street has acquired the North American distribution rights to The Third Parent from Walters Media Group and plans to give the film a nationwide theatrical release this winter. The movie marks the feature directorial debut of producer David Michaels, who also wrote the screenplay.
The Third Parent takes place amidst a Fourth of July celebration when a disturbing figure named Tommy Taffy emerges, disguising himself as a human to infiltrate a suburban neighborhood and impose authoritarian rule over an unsuspecting family.
Gary Michael Walters is producing the film for Walters Media Group, which retains ownership of the intellectual property. Lowe is producing with Spencer Young for Enfant Terrible, alongside Jonathan Halperyn and Daniel Kresmery for Hero Squared. Executive producers include Jack Roberts for Lesnik Entertainment, Drake Dowd and Kristen Gilot-Dowd for Dowd Films, and Andrew Karpen and Kent Sanderson for Bleecker Street.
When the film was first announced, Bleecker Street’s Andrew Karpen and Kent Sanderson shared their enthusiasm for the project, saying, “Crispin Glover’s Tommy Taffy will be the next great horror villain. With Gary’s incredible track record as a producer and David’s strong vision, anchored by Rob Lowe and Roselyn Sanchez’ compelling performances, we believe this will be a singular and terrifying theatrical experience.”
For viewers who haven’t encountered the source material, The Third Parent is based on Elias Witherow’s horror stories that found an audience through online communities. The film now has the opportunity to introduce Tommy Taffy to a much wider audience through its theatrical release.
With the first teaser now available, The Third Parent is moving another step closer to its planned theatrical debut this winter. I was interested in this project as soon as Glover’s casting was announced, and the prospect of seeing him bring Tommy Taffy to life remains one of the film’s biggest draws for me.
