Who will be the focus of the first stand-alone Star Wars film?

swbannerThe STAR WARS universe has many great characters (especially the first trilogy) and everyone has their favorite. This isn’t limited to the obvious ones like Han Solo or Darth Vader. Over the years characters like Boba Fett and Grand Moff Tarkin have gained a cult following for their own reasons, as have most of the other supporting characters. So when news first broke about a stand-alone STAR WARS film everyone had their own idea about which character would tell tell the best story.

Harry Knowles at AICN believes that the first stand-alone movie will be focused on…Yoda.

“The first Stand Alone film is going to center upon YODA.  At this stage specifics are sparse, but Kathleen Kennedy is putting together a STAR WARS slate…  I’m wildly curious for more details on the YODA film – would this be a young or old YODA tale?”

This is based on things he has heard about expansions being done in the California Adventure Park as well as other sources.

It’s a little…underwhelming isn’t it?

Don’t get me wrong: I love the green guy. But the FIRST stand-alone feature film? It makes sense to use one of the characters as well known as Yoda; I get that. But I have this weird feeling (and it might just be because Disney’s involved) that they may use Yoda to attract the younger age demographic, especially if it’s related to the theme park. That doesn’t mean a Yoda film would be bad, but it doesn’t excite me like a Fett or Jabba the Hutt movie would. But since Disney is going to try to keep us in the dark on a lot of this news until they HAVE to say something, lets hope they have a trick up their sleeve to really sell us on Yoda.
