With THE WICKER MAN remake promotions starting up, Anchor Bay did the smart thing and announced that they will re-release the original onto DVD August 22nd for the low price of $14.98.

Now, before you stop looking for the original out of print wooden boxset of the film, keep in mind that this upcoming release is the 87:37 North American theatrical edition, and not the director’s cut which clocks in at 99:41. This new DVD also has Interviews with Stars Edward Woodward, Christopher Lee and Ingrid Pitt, Director Robin Hardy, Producer Peter Snell, Writer Anthony Shaffer, Editor Eric-Boyd Perkins, Art Director Seamus Flannery, Assistant Director Jake Wright, U.S. Distributor John Simon and legendary filmmaker Roger Corman, the theatrical trailer, TV and radio spots and talent bios.

Whether these interviews are snippets from the documentary that was in the LE set or brand new ones, I don’t know. But considering that the new DVD still misses out on the elusive commentary by actors Christopher Lee and Edward Woodward and Director Robin Hardy and moderator Mark Kermode (which you can find in the R4 Collector’s Edition put out by Universal) and the cool goodies in the R2 sets (original theatrical poster, soundtrack, collectible sensitype image and original theatrical press brochure), stick with finding the
LE boxset and the R2 releases for now.
