Will Angelina Jolie play a wicked witch in Maleficent?

Just the other day I wrote about MALEFICENT, the wicked spin on Disney’s SLEEPING BEAUTY tale that posits the evil queen as the main character; the flick had just gained a screenwriter in Linda Woolverton and seems close to signing Tim Burton. Now it may have a leading lady in the bargain.

According to the L.A. Times, Angelina Jolie has active interest in the titular role (in their words, she’s “keen” on the material). And who says no to Angelina Jolie? Not even Brad Pitt – otherwise they’d probably have 4 or 5 less kids.

That said, I can’t really think of a better choice. If there’s anyone I want to see playing a nasty fairy godmother, it’s Angelina. If Burton does indeed sign on, it’s seems like a pretty good match of director and actress. Lord knows they both have done a lot of brooding in their time…
