Will Iron Man & Hulk: Heroes United be an animated sequel to The Avengers?

While I have become known as He Who Hated THE AVENGERS, I am a fan of the characters and the comic book. So, when I heard that Marvel Animation would be bringing Hulk and Iron Man together in their own adventure, I was intrigued. I think Hulk was the best character in THE AVENGERS and having him team up with the Downey Jr version of Iron Man provided some of the movie’s best moments.

IRON MAN & HULK: HEROES UNITE is not officially a sequel to THE AVENGERS. But, Marvel VP Jeph Loeb does indicate that the inspiration for the characters are Robert Downey Jr and Mark Ruffalo’s take on them in the Joss Whedon movie.

IRON MAN & HULK will team team Tony Stark and Bruce Banner in a fight against the villain Zzzax, a creature formed out of pure energy who can absorb human minds. Loeb says “We see [Zzzax’s] origin in the movie. It’s what would happen if the entire Eastern seaboard [electrical grid] went out. The two heroes meet up, thinking of each other as to blame.”

The animated movie will feature the voices of Adrian Pasdar (NBC’s Heroes) as Iron Man and Fred Tatasciore (a veteran of previous Hulk cartoons) as Banner/The Hulk. The direct to DVD movie will be released on April 23rd, 2013, just in time for IRON MAN 3.
