While doing promotional rounds at SXSW for his new "From Dusk Till Dawn" (review) series, Robert Rodriguez offered an update on the long talked about HEAVY METAL adaptation. Thanks to his newly launched El Rey network, it's no surprise that he is now eyeing a potential TV adaptation of the 1981 animated sci-fi anthology. “Well, now that I’ve got a television network, potentially we could go into television as well,” he tells Screen Rant.

When asked about how the project would look as far as visuals go, Rodriguez says it would incorporate differently styles of animation. “It would be a variation of different types of animation … Classic, some hand drawn, some digital, some mixed media. That was always great about ‘Heavy Metal’ is everybody did a different thing, story dependent.” Unfortunately, that's about as far as it goes on this one but it will be interesting to see if the success of "From Dusk Till Dawn" will impact a potential HEAVY METAL series or not. Rodriguez is a busy man as he's already talking about SIN CITY 3, so who knows when/if this will ever happen.
