Sex and the City star Willie Garson has passed away at the age of 57 after a battle with cancer.
Garson was shooting the Sex and the City revival, titled And Just Like That…, when he passed. He was reprising his role as Stanford Blatch, a classy and funny gay man and dear friend to Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw.
Garson’s son Nathen Garson and actor Titus Welliver were among the first to announce Garson’s death.
“I love you so much, Papa,” Nathen wrote in a heartfelt post on Instagram. “Rest in peace and I’m so glad you got to share all your adventures with me and were able to accomplish so much. I’m so proud of you.”
“There are no words,” Welliver wrote, “I love you dear brother. We are fewer.”
In addition to his Sex and the City role, Garson appeared in several roles throughout the 80s and 90s for shows like Mr. Belvedere, Family Ties, Coach, Quantum Leap, Monk, Ally McBeal, Party of Five, and Friends. As the story goes, Garson and Parker became fast friends after they were set up on a blind date. In time, their infectious chemistry led to Garson landing the role of Stanford Blatch.
Garson is survived by his son Nathen and will be sorely missed by those who loved him. We wish you safe passage to the Great Hereafter, Mr. Garson. Thank you kindly for all the good times.
