So much for Juan Carlos Fresnadillo…

It was only yesterday we heard the legal wranglings between TWC and Relativity had been settled regarding THE CROW, and now that the project has re-launched, a new writer and director have been zeroed in on!

Deadline has it that Jesse Wigutow (IT RUNS IN THE FAMILY) is currently ironing out a deal to pen THE CROW, with THR claiming F. Javier Gutierrez (BEFORE THE FALL) set to direct.

In terms of experience, Wigutow has also written IRREPERABLE HARM for HBO films, BACHELORIZED for Offspring Entertainment, has the Robert Ludlum adaptation of THE OSTERMAN WEEKEND set-up at Summit, and last but not least, wrote a Steve McQueen biopic for Cross Creek. So, while we may not yet know the name, this the dude has been awfully busy.

As for Gutierrez, THE CROW will mark his third feature behind the 2008 sci-fi/horror film BEFORE THE FALL, and the 2012 slated MONKEY’S PAW. He knows the genre well, and at 38, has the youth to inject new vitality into the franchise. At least, we can assume that’s the thinking.

No word on when production will mobilize, but we’ll keep you posted when we hear more. In the meantime, let us know how you like the hire of both Wigutow and Gutierrez.
