Woody Allen’s The Bop Decameron understandbly changes its title to Nero Fiddled

Here’s a funny statement released by writer-director Woody Allen yesterday regarding his upcoming film THE BOP DECAMERON:

“I couldn’t believe how few people had heard of the Decameron, even in Rome. And the few that did assumed the movie was based on Boccaccio’s tales, which it’s not. Anyhow, I changed the title to ‘Nero Fiddled,’ which is the first time I’ve changed a title since my last minute switch of ‘Anhedonia’ to ‘Annie Hall.'”

Ha! Well as we know, ANNIE HALL worked out pretty well for Allen, and hopefully NERO FIDDLED will as well.

The comedy, which has been filming in Rome since July, stars Allen himself (his first time acting in one of his own films since 2006’s SCOOP) along with Alec Baldwin, Roberto Benigni, Penelope Cruz, Judy Davis, Jesse Eisenberg, Greta Gerwig, Ellen Page, Alison Pill, and Alessandra Mastronardi. According to Variety, the film “consists of four separate vignettes — two with American characters set in Rome, while the other two involve Italian characters, also set in Rome — but the vignettes never intersect.” Not much of a plot description, but it’ll have to do for now.

NERO FIDDLED is due out sometime next year.
