Woody Harrelson confirmed for the young Han Solo film

Last week it was rumored that Woody Harrelson was up for a role in Christopher Miller and Phil Lord's UNTITLED HAN SOLO STAR WARS ANTHOLOGY FILM, as it's being referred to. Looks like Lucasfilm has decided to own up, as they've just announced that Harrelson has officially signed on for a role in their young Han Solo film! As of now, there are no details about his role, but they did state that the film is set, "during the early scoundrel days of the iconic characters, prior to A NEW HOPE." We already know that Alden Ehrenreich will be playing the titular character, with Donald Glover as Lando. Are more iconic characters set to show their face? We'll have to wait and see!

Directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller on Woody Harrelson:

We couldn’t be more excited to work with an artist with as much depth and range as Woody. His ability to find both humor and pathos, often in the same role, is truly unique. He is also very good at ping pong.

I've always loved Woody, and mentor or no, I think he's a great addition to the cast. He cancels out Emilia Clarke, anyway. While a lot of people are uneasy about another actor portraying the famed smuggler, I have faith that Christopher Miller and Phil Lord have something fun in-store for us with this one. Given that Lawrence Kasdan (THE FORCE AWAKENS, THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK) and his son Jon penned the screenplay, I think we're in good hands. Now we play the waiting game and see who else will be joining this cast in a galaxy far, far away!

The UNTITLED HAN SOLO STAR WARS ANTHOLOGY FILM is scheduled to open in theaters on May 25, 2018, but you can catch Woody Harrelson next in WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES on July 14th.
