When Jeff Nichols makes a movie, it immediately has my attention. Following in the strong footsteps of both TAKE SHELTER and MUD, Nichols' latest – MIDNIGHT SPECIAL – tells the story of a young boy with unique powers that could change the world forever and his father who will do everything he can to protect his son.
When you have an individual of such mysterious capabilities in a movie, of course the government is going to want to get in on the action and find out what the hell is going on, and Nichols' film dives right into the manhunt that takes place while also examining the father-son relationship given life by Michael Shannon and Jaeden Lieberher.
I've got my fingers crossed for MIDNIGHT SPECIAL that Nichols has given us another good one. Suffice to say, the latest trailer for the film is overflowing with intrigue.
MIDNIGHT SPECIAL is set for a limited release on March 18.
