Holidays are a time of family togetherness, for better or for worse. It looks to be for the worst with the family in the new trailer for, You People, the ensemble comedy from Black-ish creator Kenya Barris. The film is slated to premiere on Netflix on January 27, 2023.

Here’s the synopsis from Netflix:

A new couple and their families find themselves examining modern love and family dynamics amidst clashing cultures, societal expectations and generational differences in this comedy from Kenya Barris.

You People is co-written by Kenya Barris along with one of the film’s stars, Jonah Hill. The line-up of the comedic ensemble cast includes Hill, Eddie Murphy, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Lauren London, David Duchovny, Nia Long, Molly Gordon, La La Anthony, Travis Bennett, Andrea Savage, Elliot Gould, Rhea Perlman, and Deon Cole.

The teaser showcases a short snippet of a scene where Jonah Hill has a sit-down lunch with the parents of his intended, who will be played by Eddie Murphy and Nia Long, as he tries to convince them he’s a good enough person for their daughter. In true comic fashion, it isn’t going well, and it’s undoubtedly the tip of the iceberg of the craziness that’s due to come.

Comic legend Eddie Murphy had his Netflix original debut with Dolomite is my Name and will be premiering the anticipated sequel to his Beverly Hills Cop franchise with Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley on the streaming service next year. Murphy also followed up his 80s classic, Coming to America, with Amazon’s Coming 2 America, which was written by Barris.

What do you think? Are you excited for this Eddie Murphy/ Jonah Hill team-up?
