If you're hoping that Zack Snyder will continue making movies for the DC Extended Universe after his version of Justice League is released on HBO Max I've got some bad news. Recently while appearing as an honored guest on the ComicBook Debate podcast, Snyder confirmed that he's moving on to other projects now that his version of Justice League is soon to be complete. Originally, Snyder proposed a five-film plan for Justice League, though he's no longer interested in making that dream (for some) a reality.
When asked about his long-gestating HBO Max presentation for Justice League, Snyder admitted that he never expected to be in a position where he could finish the film.
"Look, I never thought I'd be here doing this. I didn't think I'd be finishing Justice League," Snyder explained. "The truth is, and it's been widely reported, and I have no issue, this is an old movie. This is a years-old movie I'm working on. The DC universe has gone and branched off and done its own thing and that's fine. As far as what I did and as far as what my vision for what I wanted to do with these characters and the journey I wanted them to go on, it's well known that I planned on more movies, five movies or something, but I'm busy. I've got a lot going on. Is it cool that the fans have so much faith in the trajectory? Yes, it's amazing, and I couldn't be happier and I'm excited for them to see Justice League so they can really drink the entire elixir of Justice League. But, would I continue? I have no plan to. But as I said, I didn't think I'd be here, so who knows?"
While there's an army of Snyderphiles who would love to see Snyder's DC Films tenure extended beyond the release of Justice League, it sounds as if that ship has sailed. As Snyder had pointed out, Justice League is an old film, and since its initial release, he's had a lot of other ideas that he'd like to see to fruition. Plus, there's always the possibility of Snyder coming back to DC at a later time. Hell, we might even see a comic book version of his universe make it onto shelves at some point. At the end of the day, it sounds like Snyder has had his fill of the DCEU discourse for now, and perhaps needs a break from all the fawning, fanaticism, and full-on madness that comes part and parcel with his Snyderverse.
