Zack Snyder & Jay Oliva mount Norse Mythology anime series at Netflix

While Snyderphiles continue to fight an uphill battle for Warner Bros. to #ReleaseTheSnyderCut of the MAN OF STEEL helmer's unfinished version of JUSTICE LEAGUE, it's been confirmed that Zack Snyder and Warners animation filmmaker Jay Oliva are teaming for an original Norse Mythology anime series at Netflix.

Plans to develop an epic animated series set in the time of gods, monsters and wicked witches comes after the streaming giant had found major success with animated series the likes of CASTLEVANIA, DEVILMAN CRYBABY, GODZILLA: THE PLANET EATER, BAKI, VIOLET EVERGARDEN, B: THE BEGINNING, and THE SEVEN DEADLY SINS. So impressed has Netflix been with the repeat watch-rate for the aforementioned animated offerings that the platform has several new series in the works based on popular franchises, including MAGIC: THE GATHERING, PACIFIC RIM, ALTERED CARBON, GHOST IN THE SHELL,: SAC_2045, and TRANSFORMERS – WAR FOR CYBERTRON. Each of these titles are in active development, giving Netflix subscribers even more reasons to remain customers of the service after Disney+ goes live this November.

Zack Snyder’s innovation in visual storytelling has pushed the industry forward and established him as one of the most distinctive filmmakers of his generation. We are beyond excited to partner with him and his exceptional team to bring the iconic characters and stories of Norse mythology to life in his inimitable style,” said John Derderian, head of Anime programming for Netflix.

Reports indicate that Snyder and Oliva will serve as writers for Netflix's Norse Mythology anime series, with Oliva also acting as showrunner, director and executive producer. Moreover, Snyder will also executive produce. Ah, but they won't be alone for the effort, seeing as Deborah Snyder and Wesley Coller will also produce via Stone Quarry Animation.

In the past, Snyder and Oliva have framed themselves as a dynamic duo of the silver screen, having worked alongside one another on more than a dozen live-action films such as JUSTICE LEAGUE, BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE, 300: RISE OF AN EMPIRE, and MAN OF STEEL.

What say you, friends? Are you ready for Snyder and Oliva to trade Batman and Superman for Thor and Loki? Do you think that outlandish adventures in and around Mount Olympus can be just as epic as the superhero battles fought in Gotham and Metropolis? Personally, I'd bet all the coin in my coffers that whatever Snyder and Oliva call down from the skies on high will be worth tuning in for. Bring it on, I say!
