Well, Zentropa Spain has just picked up the rights to a film called RED DOG, a psychological sci-fi thriller cut from the same cloth as the aforementioned greats (says Zentropa manager David Matamoros). If what you’re reading excites, continue…the shite gets a whole lot better…
Adapted from David Pantaleon’s short film of the same name (to screen at Sitges 2010), RED DOG is a highly ambitious tale being set in the 23rd century, 200 years after a lethal virus has forced mankind to shelter in Egas, an underwater base on the Atlantic Ocean floor. Pantaleon will direct, from a fleshed out script by Aitor Guezuraga and Enrique Martinez. The project, which looks to lens in the fall of 2011, will allocate roughly $1.1 million for above the line costs.
Call me whacko, but I quite like the idea of a large scale epic made on the relative cheap. Being deprived of resources breeds ingenuity, and if we had more imagination in movies I think we’d all be a bit more grateful.
