Zombieland writers help more Hasbro toys come to life in a Micronauts movie

JoBloJoBlo

I’m sure I’ll be dating myself by admitting it, but some of my clearest childhood toy memories are from non-movie related playthings like ROM the Spaceknight, BIG TRAK, Star Bird, Hugo the Man of a Thousand Faces, and the Micronauts.

Obviously I’m not the only one who remembers those little die-cast metal dudes, and since there’s even a remote possibility of another toy-related movie franchise, Paramount is all over it.

The studio, producer JJ Abrams and toy conglomerate Hasbro (who now owns the rights) has given in-demand geek writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese (ZOMBIELAND, DEADPOOL, G.I. JOE 2: RETALIATION) the task of coming up with a script for a big-screen version of MICRONAUTS.

For those unfamiliar, the MICRONAUTS (the US version of Japan’s Micromen) were a cool series of toys that had interchangeable body parts and accessories, and weapons that fired spring-loaded projectiles. They later appeared (along with other original characters) in comic series from Marvel and Image.

Hasbro is also working on another TRANSFORMERS, along with “adaptations” of Candyland, Ouija, Risk, Monopoly, Stretch Armstrong, plus next summer’s expensive board game movie BATTLESHIP.
