Grindhouse presents... - September/October

So by now, we all know that GRINDHOUSE will be split and released as, "Grindhouse presents DEATH PROOF/PLANET TERROR". Apparently, now neither of the discs will contain any of the faux trailers spliced between flicks. Bummer. By the way, what do you call a DVD release when its initial release was the "Extended & Unrated 2 Disc Special Edition"? Not a rhetorical question, Strike Back with your witty responses below. Over at Cinematical they listed a rumored special features list for each flick, which you can find below. Also, thanks to DavisDVD for the cover art. If anything changes, we'll let you know because we're nice like that.

Death Proof:

  • Finding Quentin's Gals
  • The Guys of Death Proof
  • Kurt Russell as Stuntman Mike
  • Introducing Zoe Bell
  • Quentin's Greatest Collaborator: Editor Sally Menke
  • Double Dare trailer
  • International Poster Gallery
Planet Terror:
  • Audio Commentary with Writer/Director Robert Rodriguez
  • International trailer
  • Deleted Scenes
  • Cooking School
  • 10-Minute Film School
  • The Stunts
  • The Make-up and Effects
  • The Badass Babes
  • The Renegade Guys
  • The Costumes
  • The Production Design

Shrek the Third - November 13

It's no coinky-dink the oh so clever play on words with the SHREK THE THIRD title. I think even the studio knew this was going to be shit and let it slide by. The first I enjoyed very much, the second was a worthy successor while the third (and this movie season on a grander scale) reminded me why I hate the whole Hollywood movie making, mass production of shit remakes and sequels. Trilogies are iffy. Animated trilogies are even harder to pull off. Mike Myers doing a boorish Scottish accent as a green ogre is about as appealing as watching The Arrow eat a oyster for the first time.

Includes:

  • Additional Scenes
  • Shrek’s Guide to Parenthood
  • Meet the Cast
  • Tech of Shrek 3
  • Worcestershire Academy Yearbook
  • Big Green Goofs
  • Music Videos: Donkey Dance and Dancing Babies
  • Trailers
  • Merlin’s Magic Crystal Ball
  • Get Up and Play PSA
  • Learn the Donkey Dance
  • How to be Green
  • English DD5.1 Surround
  • French and Spanish audio
  • English, French and Spanish subtitles

Babel (CE) - September 25

In one of the most pointless Collector's Editions ever, the only feature on the Academy Award winning movie is a comprehensive feature length making-of video diary from director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu called Common Ground: Under Construction Notes . This after a single disc bare bones release earlier this year. If you're into it, there it is.

Evan Almighty - October 9

Now it's just looking like we feature flicks just to bash on, but come on people, EVAN ALMIGHTY? They gave the whole thing away in the trailer, it was a dumb idea to begin with since Evan was such a small, peripheral character in BRUCE ALMIGHTY and the whole Noah's Ark angle was brutal. I'm glad I watched it on bootleg instead of paying for it. Steve Carell is Steve Carell and I'm a huge fan of his. He actually wasn't HORRIBLE in EVAN ALMIGHTY, he just needs a better vehicle. Preferably a vehicle without some kind of biblical connection. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Includes:

  • 2.35:1 Anamorphic Widescreen
  • English and Spanish DD5.1 Surround
  • English DVS Dolby Digital 2.0
  • French DD2.0 Surround
  • English SDH, French and Spanish subtitles
  • Deleted Scenes
  • Outtakes
  • The Ark-itects of Noah's Ark
  • Steve Carell Unscripted
  • Animals on Set Two by Two
  • Animal Roundup Game
  • The Almighty Green Set
  • It's Easy Being Green
  • Acts of Random Kindness
  • A Flood of Visual Effects
  • Casting Call: Serengeti
  • The Almighty Forest

Saw Trilogy Box Set - October 23

Now we're talking about some cool ass artwork. Love the cover of this box set. I'm going put it on my lady friend's pillow when she comes home late from hanging out with her friends and accosting random men at some hole in the wall bar. That'll show her. That and the trip wire I set on the front door; when she hits it, sirens and strobe lights go off and a megaphone saying, "LATE NIGHT SLUT, LATE NIGHT SLUT" is blasted into her ear. Love my girl, she lookin' good; she lookin' real good. The box set itself includes all three of the flicks' special and uncut editions and comes available in the aforementioned cool looking, but limited 3-D Puppet Head Box.

I don't mind that they are being split (but i miss the fake trailers). Maybe if the separate releases sell well, we'll get a Grindhouse 2. I know I'll be buying both dvds and the eventual special special edition.

They should release a third Grindhouse DVD that consists of all the trailers (including the ones that didn't get shown stateside), because the trailers are the only part of that crap deluxe that I'd ever want to see again.

P.S. People should stop whining about Grindhouse being a flop, as it just may be the only thing that'll inspire both Tarantino and Rodriguez to stop being criminally lazy in their filmmaking. It was an interesting idea and all, but Death Proof was probably about as challenging for Tarantino to make as it is for me to cook ramen noodles. Plus, there's a difference between celebrating an era of filmmkaing and completely exploiting it to make yourself look hip and cool. Grindhouse deserved to flop.

Sad Sad Sad
Well I really liked Grindhouse, thought it was a pretty good flick as a whole. I did enjoy planet terror more than death proof, but it was all good over all. Not so bummed about the movies being split. What really disappoints me is that none of the trailers will be included. I was really looking forward to seeing the trailers and the scenes that were cut to get the R rating. I do have hop...

We all know that they will release a cut of the movie with all the good stuff in about a year or so.

Ok...
...when did they ever say that they were going to release it as one film? I was alwasy under the impression since 2 weeks after it was out that it was going to be two different releases.
I have a feeling that everyone who is complaining about grindhouse being split will own both dvd sets. Just a hunch

Weinstein Co. Just screwed themselves!!
Wow! They did it. I didn't think they would have the balls to do it but they did. They split up Grindhouse on seperate dvds. Even though the whole point of Grindhouse is it being a "DOUBLE FEATURE"!! And taking out the AWESOME fake trailers in between is ridiculous! I loved those trailers!! I don't know what's going through their heads but the Weinsteins are either very smart or INSANELY STUPID!!

They're probably releasing the grindhouse films separately to make a little money back for the flop that they were in theaters.

Will that be the full version of Death Proof? Just curious since it has the Cannes stamp on it...

Yo Resurrected?
Hey Resurrected, Tarantino & Rodriguez have nothing to do with this release and I'm sure are equally bummed about it. Blame the greedy fat-fuck Wienstien brothers. It would be their double dip. Just don't buy the fucking things and eventually they'll pull their heads out of their asses.

Screw Napa79, I dig the commentary on each disc. Especially the Saw Box.

Oh, and Wienstiens can suck it.

Grindhouse
They were meant to be released as a whole movie. The movie was called Grindhouse for God sake. Sucks that my favorite film is being split in two and not even the trailers are on the special features. I just hope that they will eventually go ahead and release the movie on dvd the way it was in theaters

Jeff Fahey GRINDHOUSE?
Which one had Jeff Fahey in it? I've been a fan of his since PSYCHO III.

That flick never gets love...
