My goal leading up to the July 18th release of THE DARK KNIGHT is to write at least one story about it per night. If that fails, then I shall renounce pizza. Good news is, I’ll be eating pizza tomorrow, because Wired.com has an interesting article about the technical stuff behind TDK, and how Christopher Nolan tried to avoid CGI effects in lieu of the real thing. A particularly interesting quote Nolan had referred to the nature of Ledger’s performance.

“The director wasn’t interested in plumbing the murky origins of the Joker himself - the Clown Prince is more a Loki-like force of chaos. “He’s like the shark in Jaws,” Nolan explains. “The Joker cuts through the film, he’s incredibly important, but he’s not a guy with a backstory. He’s a wild card.”

I’m surprised they’re not giving the Joker a back story, but the performance might work better that way. After all, evil is more terrifying when you can’t explain it.

Mr. Nolan is the man. By the way, does anyone know if the 7 minute imax footage will be shown before normal showings of the dark knight in theaters? like at the beggining?

and i liked halik's idea : from now on we should call it TFDK

I've got my tickets! Five IMAX tickets for that Friday. Would be the midnight showing if I didn't have work.

And I live about 15 minutes from the IMAX theatre, part of the Kerasotes chain. So I'll be watching multiple times.

Oh, and this article is awesome. Even my girlfriend loved it.

nac dasty I believe deserves a humanitarian award, or to be Time's Person of the Century. And also to be given another ticket cause it's The Fucking Dark Knight. I also JUST purchased 4 tickets for TFDK.

NO TICKETS
I don't have my tickets since they don't sell them so early, but I have my TDK t-shirts :D so at least I'm ready to go to the movies with them. I'll put on both of them, since one is with the TDK logo and one is with Joker (Why So Serious?) :))

I have my ticket bought and I am ready to see it in IMAX. I tried to stay spoiler free like some of my cousins, but I am a batman fan, I want to see everything. I read the script for Batman Begins and it ruined nothing for me. The movie was still nothing I was prepared for. I imagine I will feel the same way with this one.

Speaking of all the breaking Dark Knight news... I'm a little worried. I mean, how much of the movie is gonna be spoiled for us. I could go into this movie knowing every detail, and still LOVE this movie, and I'm sure I will, but I'm worried, between the photos, the IMax bank scene, all the little clips, tv spots, and trailers, by the time the movie comes out, I'll feel like I'll have seen it...

I've already heard some about this a while back... and I like the idea. I have also heard that Two-Face will be a combination of make up and CG so don't fret... Also... don't know if it was posted already, but there's a pic of the Joker without his clown make-up... Sweet!

Look, I'm not anti-CGI AT ALL. In fact, I love what it can do. But a Batman movie? Where is it REALLY necessary? Maybe SOME stunt work and matte-paintings ala Batman Begins...but that's about it. I wouldn't mind if it was seemless (like the aforementioned Begins), which means that TDK will almost certainly have CGI in it...just not a lot, which I think IS progress - a good mixture of practical ...

That's pretty cool considering we have seen a lot of CG-filled movies lately that a lot of us have gotten sick of (Indy 4). Just one question, will Harvey Dent's "burnt" face be CG or just make-up? I think that will be CG, but I don't really give a shit. As long as it looks good.

I really like this take on the Joker, and how his backstory isn't mentioned in the film, I mean, we all know where he comes from and what he's about, so what's better than to just see him go all psyco on Batman without all of the backround story; before this article I didn't know that Nolan didn't want to use CGI in his film and I respect that, so I guess you don't need CG effects to make a gre...

what a read. nolan is the man. i'm not anti-cgi perse, but after indy 4, there's nothing i would like better than some kickass stuntwork on that big imax screen. now if this movie would would just come out already.
