It had to have been hard for Jared Hess to try and follow up his cult blockbuster NAPOLEON DYNAMITE. Where, as a writer and director, do you go from there. Unfortunately he went to NACHO LIBRE, which I watched after a few cocktails and still only laughed about twice at. But OK, that was more of a kids film and wasn't my cup of tea. Hess is still an original talent and the success of NAPOLEON gives him a lot of leeway in my mind. So what's up next for the guy? Well lucky for you JoBlo.com has the exclusive details on Hess' next project. Hess has signed with Fox Searchlight to direct GENTLEMEN BRONCOS based on a script he co-wrote with wife and writing partner Jerusha Hess. The film returns to the indie NAPOLEON roots and follows a high school outcast who's an aspiring fantasy author. He attends a fantasy convention to show off his work and finds his supposed masterpiece - "Yeast Lords" - ripped off by legendary novelist Ronald Chevalier, who has turned desperate for ideas. Sounds like NAPOLEON DYNAMITE meets RUSHMORE and I've got to say it sounds pretty damn funny. I'm just dying to know the significance of the title of the movie... Mike White, who co-wrote NACHO with Hess, will produce the film. Filming is scheduled to take place next March in Utah (the setting for NAPOLEON as well).

Extra Tidbit: Hess directed the video "We Will Become Silhouettes" by The Postal Service.

You're dead wrong about Nacho Libre. That film was so underrated - everyone seemed to want it to be your typical Jack Black film, even the marketing, and when it wasn't, it was very much a Jared Hess film, people just...

I thought Napoleon Dynamite was terribly overrated and Nacho Libre looked bad enough for me to just avoid it altogether.

Thank you tylerj for that! Funny thing, I really thought Napoleon Dynamite was funny, but I now find myself trying to remember it ever existed. And I've watched it more than one time. I guess that's what happens when all the guys wearing "Vote for Pedro" T-shirts stop.

Anyway, sounds intriguing.

Sounds Great! I can't wait. I thought Nacho Libre was awesome.

BTW, Napoleon Dynamite took place in Idaho, not Utah.

This sounds like a great concept for a film. I wonder who will get cast as the leads because that could be crucial... Hopefully no Heder, and Nacho Libre rules.
